Due to the Coronavirus, most Americans would be traveling during this holiday, but this year that has changed. Although you may not be able to travel to your favorite destination or go to your annual party because of social distancing guidelines does not mean you have to be bored at home. There are still several ways to celebrate during Memorial Day while social distancing, even though it may not include a beach or outdoor concert.
Here are some social distance safe activities you plan to do for Memorial Day weekend.
Get Outside
Being stuck in the house during coronavirus can put a damper on your mood. It is still important to get daily exercise and vitamin D. Exercise has been proven to improve your mood and give you more energy. This Memorial Day you can go on a scenic walk or hike with your family members or best friend.
It is still important to avoid large crowds and follow social distancing guidelines. I suggest picking a spot that isn’t as popular or going during an off-peak hour. Also, do your best to avoid popular amenities such as, picnic tables and public restrooms to avoid coming in contact with the virus.
You will feel so much better after getting some fresh air and having good conversations with your company.
Play Games
This Memorial Day you can bring out the games! Whether it is video games. board games, or card games, this can be the perfect time to have a game day! Here are my top picks of games you should check out:
- Just Dance
- Mario Kart
- Monopoly
- Clue
- Cards Against Humanity
- What Do You Meme?
- Uno
- Taboo
- Bananagrams
- Spike Ball
- Yatzee
You can also check out some games on your phone. In the app store, you can find fun games like Heads Up, Mario Kart Tour, Family Feud Live, and Connect Four .
Barbeque At Home
If you have a grill at home, this is a great time to bring it out! I really enjoy hotdogs, so I decided to find an easy and quick recipe. I chose to make a Chili cheese dog and a Taco dog. They were both good and different from your average hot dog. You can check out the recipe here.

For dessert, you can make a red, white, and blue themed fruit tray! I included strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream in mine. It is delicious and refreshing, especially during a hot day.
You can also make your own red, white, and blue themed punch! It looks super cool and tastes delicious!
Watch Your Favorite Show or Movie
If you don’t feel like leaving your couch, there is no better way to kick back with a good show or movie this holiday. Get transported to another time and place during this Memorial holiday in quarantine. Go to the beach with Jaws and Cast Away, travel the world watching Eat, Pray, Love and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, or go back to camping with The Parent Trap and Troop Zero.
Throw a Virtual Party
Although being in large groups is off the table right now due to social distancing guidelines, you can still hang out with your friends and family via Zoom or Google Hangout. If you’re missing party games, this can be the perfect time to participate in this. And if you are really in the holiday spirit, you can change your Zoom background to a photo of a beach or a backyard!
Learn A Tik Tok Dance
Tik Tok has taken over social media by storm. If you aren’t on Tik Tok yet you are missing out! And if you are, I know you are secretly doing the routine to Savage by Megan the Stallion in your room π€£. Gather your family and make a fun Tik Tok, or challenge your friends to a Tik Tok dance-off to see who can make the best video!
These are just a few ideas that can make your weekend more eventful! Hopefully you can take advantage of these times in quarantine with your loved ones and make awesome memories.
I hope you have a wonderful and safe Memorial Holiday Weekend. Leave a comment below and tell me one awesome thing that you are doing this weekend!
